Soběslav-Veselí Marshland - folk architecture structures

The marshland became famous not only due to its natural beauty, but also due to its folk architecture called South-Bohemian peasant Baroque. The structures of folk architecture have been preserved in Borkovice, Mažice, Zálší, Záluží, Klečaty, Komárov and others.

Folk builders (the most famous of whom were Martin Paták, Jan Šoch and František Šoch) used to build a new style of rural building with richly decorated fronts. They were inspired by architectural features which they saw in noble manors or Renaissance, Baroque or Empire burgher houses. In Záluží near Vlastiboř you can find a house which shows typical features of peasant Baroque. It is interesting namely due to its interior – a typical rural room, a black kitchen and a smith’s workshop.
The area of Soběslav-Veselí marshland is famous also, due to its marshland. Near Záluží there is the starting point of Borkovická Blata (Borkovice Marshland) educational path (5.5 km) which provides information about peat extraction and special features of marshland fauna and flora.
